This report provides a comprehensive status of the second-hand market in Belgium. By measuring the offer, we can asses the amplitude of the risks caused by the diesles for the professional. We combine different angles ( per make, per region, per age, etc.) to measure precisely the importance of the diesel cars.
The analysis track the changes we can perceive from the consumers. We measure the usage of the vehicles available on the second hand market, but also the search criteria used by end users online to search for a vehicle. Is there a gap between what the market offers and what the customers are looking for?
We measured the evolution of a basket of widely spread vehicles through the lasts months on the Belgian market. The report gives an assessment of the evolution of their attractiveness on the market. We also expanded our study to other European markets (Germany, France, Spain, Italy) to compare them to the Belgian situation.
Gocar Data is the automotive data service from Gocar / Autovlan.
We are following, hourly, published second-hand and new vehicle ads from more than 360 websites in 25 markets. In total, we follow, at any given time, 14,9 millions live ads. With a history going back to more than 4 years, we have access, at the moment, to more than 500 millions ads.
We don’t only gather the data. Once stored, all ad is cleaned to allow us to build our analysis on a controlled basis. First, we make sure we identify the vehicles published on several sites to avoid duplicates. In parallel, we translate all the descriptions used on the site, whether structured or in free text, to match our own referential data structure. This includes identifying and correcting typos.
Finally, based on clean data, we build our valuation methodology.
For each calculation, based on the criteria selected by the user, we use a dynamically generated set of historical data whose size depends also on the volume of data available. From this set, we remove and blacklist all values that are either clearly outside of the general curve shape, either due to a mistake or the intent to deceit.
The generated matrix allows us to build the mileage adjustment factor.
Finally, the system calculates a confidence index to document whether the statistical approach leading to a final result is satisfactory. If needed and possible, it will then modify the studied sample of data or restrict the filters (trim line, engine specifications …) to improve the output.
